During the 2022–23 academic year, students in Miami-Dade County Public Schools with below-proficient scores on the prior-year Florida ELA assessment participated in Read 180, a Tier 2 intervention for striving readers. Researchers from the Columbia University Consortium for Policy Research in Education found that among students assigned to Read 180 in Grades 7–10, those who engaged more with the program gained more literacy skills. They also reported that Read 180 students in Grades 7-9 who were close to the assignment cut score exhibited stronger literacy development compared to similar peers just above the cut-score who did not receive the program. These findings show causal evidence of the effectiveness of Read 180 on increasing striving readers’ literacy achievement.
